Disputes & Refunds
Refund Policies
Crypto Barter is a peer-to-peer marketplace where users transact directly with each other using cryptocurrency. This means refund policies differ from traditional e-commerce. This guide explains how refunds work on our platform.
Understanding P2P Meetup Refunds

Since Crypto Barter facilitates direct peer-to-peer transactions:
- Cryptocurrency payments go directly from buyer to seller wallets
- Crypto Barter does not hold or control user funds
- Refunds require the cooperation of the seller (or escrow release in protected transactions)
- Blockchain transactions are irreversible by design
When Refunds May Apply
Refunds may be appropriate in the following situations:
- Item not as described:The item received is significantly different from the listing (wrong model, undisclosed damage, etc.)
- Item not received:Payment was made but the item was never delivered
- Seller no-show:The seller didn't appear at the agreed meetup location
- Mutual agreement:Both parties agree to cancel the transaction and issue a refund
Escrow-Protected Transactions
For transactions that use escrow protection:
- Funds are held in escrow until the buyer confirms receipt of the item
- If a dispute is filed before release, funds remain in escrow during review
- Crypto Barter can release funds to either party based on dispute resolution
- This provides greater protection for both buyers and sellers

Direct (Non-Escrow) Transactions
For direct peer-to-peer transactions without escrow:
- Refunds depend on the seller's willingness to send funds back
- Crypto Barter can mediate but cannot force refunds
- We may take action against sellers who engage in fraudulent behavior
- Documentation and evidence are crucial for dispute resolution
This is why we encourage inspecting items thoroughly before sending payment in direct transactions.
The Refund Process
If you believe you're entitled to a refund:
- Contact the seller: Try to resolve the issue directly first
- Document everything: Take photos, save messages, and keep records
- Open a dispute: If direct resolution fails, file a dispute within 14 days
- Provide evidence: Submit all relevant documentation with your dispute
- Await review: Our team will review the case (typically 7-14 days)
- Resolution: We'll issue a decision based on the evidence
What Crypto Barter Can Do
While we cannot reverse blockchain transactions, we can:
- Mediate between parties to reach a resolution
- Release escrow funds to the appropriate party
- Suspend or ban accounts that violate our policies
- Maintain records that may be useful for external dispute resolution
- Provide documentation to law enforcement if fraud is suspected
When Refunds May Not Apply
Refunds are generally not available in these situations:
- Change of mind: You received what was described but no longer want it
- Minor discrepancies: Small differences from the listing that don't affect the item's value
- Price fluctuation: Changes in cryptocurrency value after the transaction
- Buyer negligence: Not inspecting the item before completing payment
- Late disputes: Issues reported more than 14 days after the transaction
Subscription Refunds
For Crypto Barter subscription payments:
- Subscriptions are generally non-refundable once activated
- Contact support within 48 hours of purchase if you have issues
- Technical issues preventing service access may qualify for refunds
- Refund requests are evaluated on a case-by-case basis
Best Practices to Avoid Issues
- Inspect before paying: Always examine items thoroughly at in-person meetups
- Use escrow when possible: Escrow provides the most protection for both parties
- Document everything: Take photos and keep records of all communications
- Verify sellers: Check verification status and transaction history
- Start small: Build trust with smaller transactions before larger purchases
